How to increase your personal motivation

Over the years we have all heard people say, we can create the life you want. What you seldom see, is simple and easy steps to achieve this.

Step 1 – Get up in the morning with appreciation, write a journal. Put 5 points on paper that you are grateful for. Focus on the positive in your life.

Step 2 – Do one thing that morning that makes you smile. You are special and should do something each day that makes you happy.

Step 3 – It is so important that you acknowledge yourself for what you have done with the above 2 steps. Self acknowledgment is not something we have been taught. We have been conditioned to look outside of ourselves for affirmation. Start now. Make it a habit.You have to make this choice. It is up to you to do the work.

Step 4 – There are precious few things in life that you can control. However you are in 100% control of your attitude. Being motivated means you are in control of your life. You must control thought negative thoughts, writing in a gratitude journal will aid this.

Step 5 – Know yourself. Know your strengths and areas of development. Know what gets you out of bed in the morning, with a YES attitude. This is your driver. Be aware of it and live it to the full!

Step 6 – It is so important to have your own quiet time each day. Reflection is part of your success. Be clear on where you are headed, this is your life! Exercise self-motivation every day.

Step 7 – In life, you must be clear on your personal goals and dreams. If you have written these down and made them a priority, you will achieve them. The road may curve a little on route, but knowing your destination is critical.

Step 8 – Goals and dreams are part of your daily review in your journal. It is your personal motivation. Review these, plan these and focus on these.

Step 9 – Know what you have to do to make your goals come true. Make a plan so it can be accomplished. Write it clearly, break it down and sign it for yourself.

Step 10 – Now you need to put this plan in motion. Just do it! Do not procrastinate.

By prioritizing these steps, you are taking control of your life and you will set yourself up for a fulfilled and happy life.

R21 million bursary deadline for North West youths is fast approaching

There are 71 bursaries worth more than R21 million available for North West youths to apply for and further their education and training and acquire skills that are scarce in the province including civil engineering to accounting, architecture and anthropology.

In order to address the province’s critical shortage of skills, the North West Premier’s office is calling on all learners and unemployed youths residing in the province to apply for the bursaries and further their education and training on a full-time basis at tertiary institutions.

Other available courses include community development studies, LLB degrees, civil engineering, quantity surveying, BSc Occupational Therapy, BSc Speech Therapy, BSc Agric, aviation, town planning, supply chain management, archival studies and records management, financial management, amongst others.

For all those interested, application forms can be obtained from the Office of the Premier, district communication offices, district and local municipality offices and labour centres across the province.

The only conditions and requirements for the bursaries is that all applicants must have passed matric in the previous years or they must already be studying at tertiary institutions. Preference will be given to those applicants from poor areas or those who are performing well academically but are in need of financial assistance. People with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply

The deadline for submission is January 10.

W Cape creates R5.8m training and development program for artisans

Western Cape government takes on the challenge of tackling the skills shortages in the region with the launch of an artisan development programme in the province. The objective of the programme is to up skill and train local workers and provide employment opportunities for young individuals.

The programme is a collaboration between the private sector, communities, Skills Education Training Authorities (SETAs) and Further Education and Training (FET) colleges. R5.8-million has been set aside to promote and train artisans in the region.

Minister Alan Winde, the Western Cape Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Minister, commented that the scarcity and lack of artisans in the region could have a devastating effect and impact on the local economy moving forward given the critical importance of these type of skills when it comes to service delivery especially within the engineering sector.

The goal and objective of the programme is to educate and train individuals with the necessary skills and in turn create and ongoing supply of qualified and skilled artisan who in turn can obtain employment and play an important role in advancing and growing of emerging sectors such as oil and gas industry.

The initial stage of the program will provide the necessary funding and support for 200 young individuals to complete their training and prepare them to take the National Trade Test exams.  The programme will also focus on training teachers and coaches within the 72 companies who have opted to join the programme  and assist them to train the young candidates whilst they are interning in these companies.

The programme is also aligned and works in parallel with the government’s National Development Plan which recognizes the importance of artisanship which can provide “shock absorbers for extreme poverty and platforms for self-employment” within developing economies and countries.

According to recent statements and comments from the National Development Plan, South Africa will need to produce at least 30000 artisan annually and the Western Cape government  want to play its part in helping the National Development Plan achieve its national objectives and goals.
