Tapping into Healing with EFT and Touch Therapies

More and more, cancer patients are not just passively accepting their cancer diagnosis lying down. They are becoming more proactive in terms of their treatment, combining harsher treatments with alternative modalities. Radiation and chemotherapy are paired with holistic treatments that have proven very effective in “taking the edge off” these harsh and sometimes invasive treatments. EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), Healing Touch and Intuitive Bodywork are just three of a number of tools and techniques being combined with traditional cancer therapies with tremendously beneficial healing benefits. In conjunction with other holistic treatments such as meditation, yoga and energy healing—the steps to health the mind and the body can begin.

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that affects the lungs. Mesothelioma life expectancy is from four to eighteen months, and prognosis is not good. It has been shown that the touch therapies and EFT tapping actually alter the chemistry of the body, making it an environment more conducive to healing. In the case of terminal cancers, these alternative treatments can reduce stress and promote more positive body chemistry, increasing quality of life. Healing the mind is parallel to healing the body.

EFT practitioner Dena Przybyla offers a scientific, quantum physics-related explanation of how and why EFT works on her website based on the writings of Alex Lees and Gloria Arenson:

“A thought/emotion is a collection of photons held in an electromagnetic field in our meridian system. It is a ‘potentiality’ in our energy field and meridians, but there’s no molecular movement yet or physical occupation of space in the body. The brain, which is connected with the meridians, picks up on this potentiality and converts it to a language the body can understand: the neuropeptide. Dr. Candace Pert has 15 years of research behind the following statement: ‘The biochemical equivalent of the emotions are the neuropeptides.’ The neuropeptide then causes a release of relevant chemicals into the body – i.e. stressful, negative thoughts release cortisol, adrenaline, etc. causing a negative, unpleasant feeling in the body.

“While the meridians carry energy throughout the body, there are seven energy centers in the body called chakras. The concept of chakras was first developed in ancient India. Chakras act like transformers and convert subtle energies into chemical, hormonal, and cellular changes in the body. Candace Pert’s research revealed that there are clusters of emotional receptor cells in the chakra areas.

According to Alex Lees and Gloria Arenson, “EFT addresses the negative thought/emotion you are focusing on AT ITS SOURCE – in its photon/potentiality phase in the meridians. Tapping resets the subtle energy in the body’s meridians and neutralizes the negativity within that particular thought field. It is no longer processed by the brain, and outside stimuli no longer triggers the thought-field. The cascade of neuropeptides and chemicals that had caused the bad feeling in our body is also no longer triggered.”

EFT and the other touch therapies can definitely make a difference in every phase of the cancer recovery process.

Freedom From Negative Emotions

There is a new method spreading fast in South Africa, bringing relief to so many people. This is EFT, short for Emotional Freedom Techniques. EFT training shows you step-by-step how to get rid of unwanted emotions, so you can become even more positive and strong. During your EFT workshop, you will not only learn how to release these emotions; you will also experience a liberation from them! So you de-stress while you learn!

For example, “Dee” came to see me for fear of public speaking.  She has a job involving at least one presentation a week, and the situation was getting serious. Dee had been to see a hypnotherapist for 8 sessions before she came to see me, all to no avail.  She had discovered EFT recently, when her work had sent her to a psychotherapist who helped her grieve for her lost son.  The psychotherapist had shown her EFT to help her go to sleep at night, and she was very impressed with it.  At the start of her workshop, Dee got an 8 out of 10 nervousness for a hypothetical situation involving a presentation, and we set to work on this. After a little EFT, Dee started releasing, with visible and audible relaxation. A short while later, the 8 became a 6. Then I had Dee do inner child work. I explained that we can heal the past energy, which can help us in our present life.  I had her imagine the child Dee in primary school, where the fear was rooted. We healed this child with EFT. Finally, the nervousness for that presentation situation was down to a mere 2 out of 10. As an interesting aside, Dee had attempted similar inner child work before she had come to see me, using hypnotherapy.  And it did not work at all.  I truly believe the EFT  tapping was what made the difference. Dee went home feeling a lot better than we started. She also learned many ways to tap for herself to release any unwanted emotions. It is wonderful when someone is truly ready to grow and develop with EFT.  Every step along the way is one of empowerment, and in all my career as a complementary practitioner, I have not encountered this level of empowerment with any other method.
